Abstrak

This article develops a pedagogical model for individualizing time-pressure training in elite chess. The problem is approached from the perspective of training optimization rather than from the conventional view of time trouble as merely a competitive error. Research on chess expertise shows that stronger players do not rely exclusively on intuition: deliberate analysis remains important, and decision quality deteriorates when time pressure restricts the opportunity to calculate. On this basis, time pressure is conceptualized as a controllable training load that can be dosed, monitored and progressively integrated into the training microcycle. The proposed model contains six linked components: baseline diagnostics, deep-calculation training, controlled time-pressure tasks, mixed-complexity decision training, competition simulation and post-session reconstruction. Three monitoring dimensions are used: decision quality, clock-management efficiency and stability under pressure. A practical seven-day microcycle is presented together with criteria for adapting the load to individual player profiles. The model is intended for Candidate Master level and above and can be integrated into high-performance chess preparation as a structured method for improving decision quality without reducing training to speed alone.
